Job Summary: 

As part of 3D Systems’ design team, the Mechanical Engineer will participate in the conceptualization, development, and documentation of new and improved 3D printing systems. Applicants should have a sound intuitive understanding of the physical world, experience designing complex electromechanical products, strong academic and work references, and excellent communication skills.

  • Provide technical product design, use and maintenance requirements/operations to customers as well as to internal staff
  • Work with our out-sourced partners to provide instructions on construction, test and shipping requirements for all assembled product, as well as to establish quality relationship and instruction on 3D products
  • Perform engineering changes, including research of proposed changes, change recommendations, execution of print and business system database changes, hard copy and system change records documentation
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, field service and quality assurance to monitor product quality and reliability; make recommendations for improvements and/or solutions to any discrepancies
  • Initiate/recommend proposed product enhancements as determined from customer feedback and competitive developments, to include the introduction of new products
  • Investigate product problems relating to alleged product malfunctions, customer use, maintenance methods, design changes, product documentation, etc. and recommend corrective actions
  • Assist quality with the identification of product parts/components
  • Provide technical information/reports as requested including the assembly of technical information for legal and liability inquiries; may also provide testimony in this regard
  • Assist Engineering Specialist when defining new items, bills of material and routings along with maintaining cross reference data base
  • Maintain engineering historical database including part number and tool number logs, CAD files, hard copies, scanning vendor prints, project files, technical construction files, engineering and production release documentation
  • Manage all types of correspondence between the department and its external contacts including project follow-up with vendors and customers, new item release notification to all departments and intra-company customers
  • Coordinate with marketing to determine the future of sourced products as well as obsolescence plan for products and parts

Education Training:
BS in Mechanical Engineering

At least 7 years of relative experience, including hands-on manufacturing support

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • CAD experience with SolidWorks 2012
  • Above average PC skills including word processing and spreadsheets a must
  • Oracle experience highly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with 3D products or similar industry products preferred
  • Proven self-starter, good interpersonal and time management skills, and ability to work in a team environment with minimal direction
