An engineer-physician team working at Shriners Hospitals for Children® in Springfield, Massachusetts has developed one of the most inspiring applications for 3D scanning technology. This dynamic duo, consisting of prosthetics researcher Beth Roscoe and surgeon Dr. Philip Stoddard, has developed a new treatment to correct wide cleft lips and palates. By using our selective laser sintering technology to manufacture a series of treatment appliances, the team has been able to successfully shrink the gaps in patients’ mouths before surgery.
