3D printing is changing how we make everything from medical implants to houses. Now, FabLab Nyack will introduce the public to the new intersection of 3D printing and fine art. The Hudson Valley-based fabrication laboratory is taking art competitions into digital 3D with Bits to Its: 3D Printed Art competition, the world's first juried 3D-printed art show.
In conjunction with the Nyack Famous Street Fair, Bits to Its will open July 14, 2013, to what organizers expect will be an audience in excess of 20,000 people.
We love to see any new showcase for 3D printing, and we're particularly excited as our own Ping Fu, chief strategy officer at 3D Systems, is a judge at the competition. She joins digital adventurer and artist Joshua Harker and Tel Aviv's Asher Nahmias, better known as the 3D printing artist Dizingof, on the judging panel. All 3D pioneers in their own right, the judges will be charged with selecting from entries that incorporate integral 3D-printed components.

The show opens with a fundraising reception on July 13. All art at the event will be available for sale.
