Once upon a time, not so long ago, 3D printers were the tools of the world’s engineers and devoted tech tinkerers. Over the past few decades, and especially over the past few years, the technology has expanded considerably, both in access and application, officially bringing a close to the earlier era of exclusivity. Now, in addition to being part of the cars we drive, shoes we wear, and products we use, 3D printing is making its way into our diet with 3D printed food.

Those around for last year’s announcement of our ChefJet series may already know this, but wait! There’s more. Over the past year we have been working on a variety of exciting partnerships and programs to help lift the curtain on a new era of mainstream access and participation, specifically in food.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the Spring 2015 opening of the Digital Kitchen, our 3D printed food experience in Los Angeles. Here we will bring together the traditional skills of pastry chefs, mixologists and molecular gastronomists with the ever-expanding technology of 3D printing. As an event space, the Digital Kitchen will also be a place for food artists and members of the hospitality, culinary, and event communities to gather and explore the possibilities and potential of 3D printed food. Stay tuned for more information as we approach the open and stay part of the conversation of the changing landscape of food.

This conversation also includes the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), with whom we are creating educational programs to give CIA students and faculty the chance to adopt and adapt to new techniques in the culinary arts. We are excited for our collaborative work with the CIA and for the innovations that will come from bringing more interested minds to the table. If you’re in Las Vegas and want to get a better idea of the kinds of food projects 3D printing will enable, come see the fabulous Beetle Cake (in name only) at our booth in the Sands Expo (#72225).

If chocolate is more your flavor, get ready for some really great news: in collaboration with The Hershey Company, we are bringing the all new CocoJet to CES. This chocolate 3D printer was first debuted at a 3D printed candy show at Hershey World, showing visitors the direction chocolate and technology are going.

It wouldn’t hurt to start thinking up the shapes and significance of the 3D printed chocolate souvenirs you’d want. Share your ideas with us through our CES Haiku Hashtagathon for the chance to win 3D prizes and snag a free taste of the 3D printed lifestyle! Full rules here [Link].
