For over four decades, Wyma Engineering has manufactured agricultural and produce handling equipment, evolving from a small, domestic New Zealand company to a well-reputed global enterprise. With a track record of innovation in its field, Wyma focuses its energies on product improvements and R&D, and takes a consultative approach to designing pack-houses and process facilities. When communicating systems and assemblies with so many moving parts, however, conversations can quickly fall short of expectations. To overcome this obstacle and better share its fruit sorting line at a European expo, Wyma turned to 3D printing to show rather than tell.

Calling on 3D Systems’ On Demand Parts Manufacturing service, Quickparts, Wyma had a scaled model of its complete warehouse floor in a matter of weeks.

Using 3D Systems’ iPro 8000 Stereolithography (SLA) machine, Wyma’s fruit sorting line was 3D printed in Accura Xtreme material.

Once printed, final surfaces were painted to bring out details and distinguish parts.

The completed model spanned a 2000 mm x 2000 mm area and was a tremendous hit at the show.
