Additive: High Quality Silicone Part Production via Eggshell Casting

Learn how to use plastic additive manufacturing to design and print eggshell molds that can be filled with off the shelf commodity silicones to achieve the final production properties and color desired. We’ll share information on designing digital files for eggshell molding with sprue and vent placement guidelines, and details on additive technologies and materials used to print eggshell molds to easily break away from the molded piece. See how to get high speed, low cost molding in any durometer material with the design freedom of additive to produce any geometry without support defects.

A Path to Effective In-Process Quality Analysis in Metal 3D Printing

Selective laser melting is already established as a commercial production technique. Some high-end user are, however, struggling with the complexity, consistency and cost associated with the qualification of high-value, critical applications built using the technique. In-situ process monitoring is a promising means to accommodate this issue, but quantitative correlations between monitoring signals and actual part defects have been lacking. In this lecture, results are presented that have been obtained with an off-axis melt pool monitoring system on a 3D Systems ProX DMP 320. The focus is on the development of a method for predicting the presence and location of lack of fusion porosities as they can have a large impact on part quality and are not always easily detected post-build. The processed signals from the monitoring system are shown to have a high degree of correlation with the presence of lack of fusion porosities as measured by CT scans. We also display an advanced visualization method to help end users to review and assess the quality of their printed parts. What we demonstrate is a major step for highly effective quality control and its future path toward in-situ quality analyses.

Optimizing Additive Manufacturing for Serial Production of Large Parts

Learn how auto-balancing and synchronization of multiple lasers operation, speed up the production of large metal parts while maintaining the required high quality. We’ll share information on the challenges that multiple lasers operation introduce, the possible impact on quality and the right way to address them.
