LAA Closure Module

The module enables training on LAA closure intervention. Learners gain experience in the different steps of the procedure, including standard transseptal puncture technique, sheath placement and closure device deployment.

The module features real time ultrasound in all cases, using TEE (Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram). This Echo modality uses a specialized probe containing an ultrasound transducer at its tip. It allows image and Doppler evaluation which can be recorded.

The transseptal can be performed using specific TEE views for identifying correct needle placement prior to performing a transseptal puncture; measurements of LAA can be performed under TEE views. Complications such as aortic puncture or LAA pericardial effusion might occur. In addition, one of the cases includes an air embolism complication in the coronary artery that needs to be attended to using the aspiration catheter.

The module includes 6 cases with different LAA anatomies and Fossa Ovalis (Transseptal Puncture membrane) anatomical variations.
