ROCK HILL, South Carolina, December 9, 2010 – 3D Systems (NASDAQ: TDSC) announced the two Universities that won 3D printer kits in its inaugural RapMan Challenge, a live race to assemble and use a RapMan 3D Printer Kit held at last week’s 2010 Euromold Exhibition and Conference in Frankfurt, Germany.
The RapMan Challenge, created to benefit local design and engineering programs, resulted in a new benchmark of 13 hours to fully assemble this 3D printer kit. Two of the participating universities finished within minutes of each other. The winning institutions, Bauhaus Universität Weimer and Technische Universität were awarded RapMan 3D Printer Kits and a supply of free BfB print material.
“The RapMan Challenge demonstrates the powerful, affordable education utility and value to schools and universities and underscores our commitment to democratize access to compelling and easy to use 3D content-to-print tools,” said Andy McLaren, director of global sales and marketing for Bits From Bytes. “We are very pleased to recognize these two fine teams for assembling printers that raise the bar in part quality. In a side by side comparison it was impossible to distinguish the RapMan parts from the parts printed by competitive printers costing over 10 times more.”
RapMan is an award winning 3D Printer Kit available online or through a network of authorized resellers worldwide. For more information on the kits and access to the new 3D Systems netfabb Mobile, a free iPhone and iPad app to view, share and print 3D content, please go to www.bitsfrombytes.com.
